FAQ's

Can I wear my Merino pajamas in winter and summer?

Yes. In contrast to synthetics, Merino wool is an active fibre that reacts to changes in body temperature. So it helps you stay warm when the weather is cold, and cool when the weather is hot.

Isn’t wool itchy?

Merino wool fibres are extremely fine, enabling them to bend far more than traditional, coarser wool fibres. This makes Merino wool feel soft and luxuriously gentle next to your skin. The same Merino fabric is used for next to skin active wear, underwear and babywear.

How do I wash my Merino pajamas?

Use a normal warm to cool machine wash cycle with wool was or a regular PH Neutral powdered or liquid detergent, just find one without whiteners, brighteners, stain removers or enzymes. Detergents which have 'Don't use on wool or silk' in the small print contain a nasty wool eating, skin irritating enzyme called protease. Separate lights and darks as usual.

Should I use fabric softener?

No. Softeners will coat the Merino fibres and reduce their natural ability to breathe and regulate moisture and temperature.

How should I dry my Merino pajamas?

Dry flat in shade to best preserve shape and colour. You can dry on the line, but expect some twisting of the garment and seams. As with any garment, inside out and out of excessive sun will help prolong the depth of colour.

Can I iron my Merino pajamas?

Merino wool bounces back into shape after washing, if dried as above. If you need to, use a cool iron on the wool setting, with the garment inside out.

Can I bleach my Merino pajamas?

No. Chlorine destroys Merino fibres.

How do I prevent pilling?

Pilling is a natural process that can occur when short fibres in the fabric work their way to the surface. Pilling is reduced with worsted Merino fabrics, such as those used in your pyjamas, as the short fibres are removed by the combing machine, and then the fibres are tightly twisted. Washing your pyjamas within the first three wears will help minimise pilling. Quality Merino, like Sleepy Merino, will not pill if cared for correctly, yet most inferior Merino unfortunately does.

How do I prevent moth damage?

As your PJs and loungewear will be washed and worn regularly, moth damage is less likely than heavy seasonal items that are only used occasionally and kept at the back of the wardrobe in the dark, which moths love. If you are putting your PJs away for a while, wash them and keep them in a moth proof storage container. If you think they may have been exposed to moths, put them in a plastic bag in the freezer for at least 2 weeks. This will kill any larvae.
